Owner/Director
Teramia "Terri" Oliver is the Owner and Director of The Academy Child Care
Center. An educational professional dedicated to the belief that ever child can learn,
Mrs. Oliver founded The Academy in 1994. Her
experience as an inner city school teacher with the Memphis City School System heightened
her awareness of children's need for more innovative, interactive learning environments.
The diversity of The Academy's curriculum has
proven to create a unique advantage for The Academy's
students, as evidenced by their test scores and performance in elementary school.

Mrs. Oliver discovered her love for teaching while attending Clark Atlanta University in
Atlanta, Georgia. Her passion for education was demonstrated by her superior academic
performance at Clark Atlanta where she received her Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood
Education. She continued her studies and received a Master of Arts in Curriculum and
Instruction from The University of Mississippi at Oxford. Mrs. Oliver is currently a
candidate for a doctoral degree in Elementary Education.
As a member of the board for the Tennessee Alliance for the Education of Young Children, a
past president of the Memphis Association of Family Day Care Providers, and frequent
lecturer and workshop leader for Shelby State Community College; Mrs. Oliver is an
advocate for education beyond the classroom. The solid curriculum she provides for her
students combined with the involvement in several community and professional
organizations, are examples of her committment to establishing a legacy of excellence in
our community.
